Wildland is a specialty. Use of your 3/4 inch hard line --wasting water, better use with the 1 1/2 inch, less friction loss is important when you only have a few hundred gallons on board and no tankers replacing.

I cannot believe that one poor guy is running around out there wearing an SCBA on his back!! That's just cruel and unnecessary!! Same goes for full bunker gear...I hope they get some wildland gear someday soon. Be safe, brothers and sisters.

Thanks for the comment and the correction Xsmokeater. I tried to verify the department through three different articles. These crooks need to be shamed. Some of us earned our disability by being truly unable to do the work any longer.
Certainly these scofflaws, thieves what have you need to be highlighted publicly. Everyone knows this is not a reflection on the profession.

Hate to split hairs, L.A. City not L.A. County firefighter. We all have our bad apples, in this case it is a city apple. Regardless, this should be a reflection on the person, not the profession.

No doubt about firefighters courage they always face danger and extreme conditions. The Government have to make some programs for those who are suffering from this disease.

I hear ya' Mike. I'm arranging for fire clearance to begin in April, and I hope it is in time! You reminded me that in 2008, our first Big Sur fire was in April, and our last was in December. Yes, hoping it is not a repeat of 2008!

the fire was burning in what's known as Paines Prairie, which is a swamp. Due to the prevailing drought conditions, the organic materials that are normally underwater are exposed and dried out, which is whats burning, and creates smoke. The fire was contained Saturday evening, but continues burning through the muck in the swamp (until it reaches water. The Florida Forest Service and local fire departments are actively working the muck fire but that requires thousands upon thousands of gallons of water applied.. the Forest Service routinely notifies FHP about smoke and potential impacts upon roadways, but it is up to FHP to close the roads, and for how long, FFS can only request them and ask for smoke signs to be placed
